Getting the car back to Athens

We decided to take the longer route to Athens - much more relaxing to read a book in the sea air than to worry about driving the windy Pelopennesian roads.

It's a hard knock life

All the world's a stage

Epidaurus is one of the most important ancient sites in Greece, with an almost perfectly preserved amphitheatre built 2,500 years ago and still hosting Greek dramas today.

The theatre is one of the best preserved structures from Classical Greece, having lain hidden and protected beneath layers of earth for centuries. Excavations began in 1881 and since 1954 ancient Greek dramas have been staged at the theatre which draws huge crowds for the annual festival, held in July and August.

The theater is marveled for its exceptional acoustics, which permit almost perfect intelligibility of unamplified spoken word from the proscenium or skene to all 15,000 spectators, regardless of their seating. Famously, tour guides have their groups scattered in the stands and show them how they can easily hear the sound of a match struck at center-stage.

Island hopping

We took a ferry to Hydra to experience one of the more 'tradtional' Greek islands. No transport allowed on this island except for donkeys. Not even bicycles!

It's a tough commute

Poros is opposite Galatas (on the mainland) and the ferry ride takes about 5 minutes.
